Tommy Banks (The Black Swan Oldstead) also spoils us with his central York based Roots. Meat, fish and vegetable flavour-filled dishes. Choose the ‘Roots Feast’ where the chefs will choose a selection for you. Extremely generous and delicious food.
Root, Bristol:
Based in a cool shipping container at Whapping Wharf, Bristol, Root has a fantastic view if the weather allows but the food is even better! The dishes are generous and based on the seasonal vegetables that are available. A little fish and meat in on the menu but the vegetables are the main focus. delicious!
Cornerstone, Hackney Wick, London:
Fish focused Cornerstone offers tasty small plates- we particularly enjoyed the crab crumpet. Watch the magic happen from the comfort of your table as they have an open kitchen!
Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen, Port Issac, Cornwall:
Serving the freshest fish direct from the local catch, Fish Kitchen offers delicious dishes where the fish is always the star of the show. We loved the special ‘crab on sourdough’ served with crisp celeriac and apple slaw.
MJP @ the Shepherds, Cambridge:
Get involved in the romantic small plates sharing experience at MJP Choose from a selection of the plant based, fish and meat small and large plates and relax while the talented staff group your choices into courses for you to enjoy. Chef Mark Poynton, of former one Michelin star Alimentum, uses the finest seasonal and local ingredients to create these tasty dishes.
Crockers of Tring, Hertfordshire:
Enjoy small plates in the dining room and bar at Crockers, Tring. Meat, fish and vegetarian based dishes are on offer and can be ordered as you eat to suit your appetite. The chefs table upstairs offers a tasting menu too.

I always think tapas style dining is such a good idea – you get to try so many different dishes and food experiences. Root in Bristol isn’t too far from me so I might have to give that one a try – and that crab sourdough looks utterly delicious! Lisa

I LOVE small plates dining! I don’t eat that much, so this is a good portion size for me. I love that there are a lot of places to choose from. The crab sourdough looks really interesting – something I know I would appreciate. Thanks for sharing these options!

I love tapas. There used to be a fabulous Spanish restaurant near me but unfortunately, it shut down during the COVID lockdown. The small plates style of eating is great, isn’t it? I really enjoy that you can try several dishes at one meal.
Oh I love small plates dining style! When the food is full of flavours you don’t need to eat as much as a traditional dish.
