The Green Man, Thriplow Review

The Green Man, Thriplow Review

Community owned free house The Green Man is a great choice for a good quality meal. Based in the pretty village of Thriplow in South Cambridgeshire, the Green Man usually serve tapas or large plates dishes. Due to current Covid guidelines, they have an alternative menu in place at present.

We visited with friends pre-lockdown and as fans of the sharing plates style of dining, opted for the hearty sharing tapas menu. Although customers are unable to eat in the pub at present, many of these dishes are still available. Food is only being served outside in the garden at present and tables are on a ‘first come, first served’ basis so arrive early.

Green Man Thriplow

The pub is using a brilliant online ordering system which includes an extensive menu of drinks, nibbles, tapas and desserts. Thoroughly organised Covid-safe guidelines are in place so that customers can continue to enjoy their lovely outdoor surroundings and food.

The Food:

bread at the Green Man Thriplow

I’m a HUGE bread fan and I loved the arrival of the complimentary granary bread with balsamic vinegar. Really crunchy, fresh and comforting. A good start.

As a group of 4, we were able to order and share a wide range of the dishes. We ordered (and enjoyed) hummus and chargrilled pitta, crunchy haddock goujons and tempura prawns. We also added a fresh Parmesan and anchovy salad, and the saucy meatballs.

Skinny fries with jalapeno mayo, spinach curry and Cajun chicken skewers too. This is big food so do arrive hungry!

halloumi

Finally, a flavoursome halloumi with rocket, tomato and sweet chilli salad completes our tapas feast.

The puds:

Despite the generosity of the tapas portions, we managed to find ‘our pudding space’ in order to enjoy the rich, homely desserts. A dark chocolate brownie with white chocolate ice-cream was rich, sticky treat. The honey, pear and almond frangipane was a firm favourite on the table, as was the chunky portion of sticky toffee pudding – all delicious!

When they reopen the interior, enjoy the cosiness of the chunky wood tables and the open fire. Find your table and your name in Scrabble tiles-this is such a sweet touch! But for now, snuggle up in the beautiful Green Man garden.

What the locals say:

My good friends are local to The Green Man and visit often, for a spontaneous meal out and for special occasions. Here is what they have to say;

“We love going to the Green Man as its a lovely relaxed atmosphere, excellent food, really good service and we love the little touch of scrabble welcome. Its great that its a community run pub and is dog friendly, frequented by people of all ages. it definitely feels like you are going out for a quality evening. We have enjoyed their range of tapas many times as it is a great way of tasting lots of different delicious dishes, all of which I have found are generous portions. During lockdown, it was one of my big longings to go and try out their Sunday lunch so fingers crossed I won’t have to wait too long!”

Happy customers:

We left the Green Man extremely full and content after a lovely catch up with friends. The prices here are great and the food is satisfying. The service is professional and friendly. I am sure that it is equally as warm and inviting outside as it is in so most definitely worth a visit.
