Afternoon tea is a wonderful experience. A day out involving a special afternoon tea is a real treat for me. Whether it is a gift, a catch up with friends, or just a treat to yourself, that combination of sweet and savoury delights, presented beautifully, really does make it special . Here are our favourite places for afternoon teas Cambridge.

Parker’s Tavern:

Inside the grand University Arms Hotel, you will find Parkers Tavern. This is a really decadent afternoon tea with a Cambridge theme. On the menu is a nod to famous Cambridge people and traditions in the form of delicious cakes and sandwiches, so take in some history too. It is £33 for afternoon tea and you must book ahead.

Fitzbillies:

Home of the famous Chelsea Buns, Fitzbillies has been making delicious cakes in Cambridge since 1920. The afternoon tea is a traditional serving of freshly made sandwiches, sultana scones and cakes. Afternoon tea is served for £18.95 and you can book ahead for larger groups, or drop in for smaller groups at the weekend. Make sure you take a box of Chelsea buns home with you- they are amazing!

The Ivy:

The Ivy is centrally located so convenient for a spot of shopping before you enjoy your afternoon tea. Tasty twists on the classics here- delicious! Afternoon tea can be enjoyed at The Ivy Brasserie for £19.75 and you must book ahead. There are many Ivy brasseries throughout the country, so a gift voucher is also a great option.

SIX at the Varsity:

A traditional afternoon tea with a view at SIX, which overlooks the city. Finger sandwiches, plain and fruit scones and homemade cakes. Afternoon tea here costs £22.50 weekday, or £29.50 at the weekend. Gift vouchers are available.

The Orchard Tea Garden:

Enjoy the Orchard Tea Garden’s beautiful outdoor space, complete with deckchairs in good weather, or in winter, take it indoors to the Pavilion. Booking is essential here and you can choose between two different afternoon teas, costing £15 or £20. Both give you the classic combination of scones, sandwiches and cake- the later offering a selection of mini cakes. Leave time for a pre or post tea walk from this beautiful location.
