Restaurants in Peebles – Osso Review

We recently had another wonderful holiday in the beautiful Scottish Borders. Staying at Cosaig Cottage in Innterleithen, we were able to get out and about easily to explore local places. One of these places was pretty Peebles, in particular the Michelin guide recommended restaurants in Peebles. We booked one of the dog friendly tables at restaurant Osso to enjoy their sharing plates. We love the sharing plates style of dining when we go to new places as we like to try as much from the menu as possible!

The restaurant:

Osso can be found close to the high street in Peebles so is really accessible. The outside tables make this pooch friendly for those with pets who are comfortable with passing people/ dogs etc. The staff here were so helpful and the service good. We were quickly offered drinks and given menus, while the dogs were offered water and welcomed too.

The drinks:

Jon loved the locally brewed beers and lagers by Tempest during our holiday so his choice was easy. I opt for the super fresh Organic house white.

Bread:

What a generous bread portion! The arrival of salted, cultured butter with 3 different types of bread made me very happy.

The sharing plates:

We get started with Bao. The special is a duck and hoisin number which Jon loved. Rich flavours in a fluffy bun- tasty!

I go for the mushroom and peanut bao. Lovely satay flavours with fresh shredded salad. A good start.

Next came a super rich and flavour-filled bowl of warm Parmesan custard, with smoked potato, leeks and sherry. Crisp pieces of potato skin bring texture and even more flavour to this delicious dish.

Crispy chunks of buttermilk coated celeriac served with a ranch sauce is next with onion and chilli. Satisfyingly crunchy!

Finally, the aubergine and peanut larb served with coconut and lime rice. The rice was flavour- packed, with shards of toasted coconut running through it. A larger dish than the previously mentioned (this is clear from the menu and price), this could satisfy as a main, and ever so tasty.

Restaurants in Peebles:

We really enjoyed our lunch at Osso. We didn’t get to desert as the dogs were getting restless curb side but perhaps next time. The food here was really tasty and the portions generous. A well priced, friendly restaurants for a great option for a quality lunch in Peebles.
