Dog Friendly Holidays Scotland- Longhill Farmhouse.

Dog Friendly Holidays Scotland- Longhill Farmhouse.

If you are looking for dog friendly holidays Scotland try Dumfries and Galloway. We stayed at  Longhill Farm, Whithorn -a fabulous choice.

We love Scotland. In fact, in boomarang style, we invariably book our next holiday there as soon as we get back from the last . The peace (we are very antisocial on holiday!), the space, the beautiful scenery and the fresh air can’t be beaten. The beautiful Isle of Skye was top of the list for us…until we visited Dumfries and Galloway that is. We tend to be lovers of a holiday home hire as we take dogs with us- perhaps we should try wild camping in Scotland with them at some point?

Dumfries and Galloway:

Set down a long farm track, the house stands majestically within a large, open space. After a recent renovation, it is clean and extremely comfortable for both humans and dogs.

We arrived to freshly baked bread and scones provided by the wonderful host and owner Amy, along with a welcome letter. This gave us us top tips of places to go, where to shop etc- all of which we tried and loved.  We enjoyed fresh fish delivered to our door by Ferry Fish, and the delicious (award winning) sausages from Wullie the butcher in local Whithorn.

The House:

We, being ‘two plus dogs’, had more space than we needed and didn’t even use all of the rooms. We enjoyed the huge kitchen area, spacious bedroom and freedom of the large outdoor area. I took on the challenge of trying to beat Jon at table tennis in the children’s living area, where the whippets tried to get the ball when they could.

The Facilities:

Truly dog friendly, the house has reliable wifi and all the comforts you would want for a relaxing holiday. I enjoyed the secluded and peaceful location, in the comfortable knowledge that it was only a short drive to the village for a newspaper or provisions. Just laying and listening to the visiting birds and admiring the stunning views was heavenly and so good for the soul. The dogs were equally relaxed here and soon made it their temporary home.

We enjoyed sitting outside (yes, we had sun) and cooking on the large BBQ, but as the garden was not fully enclosed the whippets stayed on lead due to the many visiting hares. I am sure that those without sighthounds would be able to let their furry friends roam around the ample garden without fear of a chase!

Out and About:

Oh and the beaches! So many beautiful, empty beaches- human/whippet heaven. Our favourite was the small but perfectly formed Monreith. Just a short drive away- we ended up visiting most days.

Other local treats included Kilsture Forest, Galloway Forest Park, St Ninian’s Cave, and Rigg Bay, Garlieston.

The Crafty Distillery is great. Gin lovers will appreciate this producer of craft spirits who make their own spirit for their delicious gin. We bought the Hils and Harbour gin, which we have since bought many times. It is now stocked by John Lewis is easy to get hold of!

Fantastic Dog Friendly holidays in Scotland:

This is now in my top dog friendly places to holiday alongside Skye. I loved the relaxed pace of life, the scenery and the sense of space in this area. Reluctantly we left Longhill Farmhouse. We tried to stay for another week but the house was already booked. We will most definitely be back!
