Restaurants in Norwich- Farmyard Review
Want to visit a lovely, relaxing city that also happens to have a wide range of exciting and quality places to eat? We love Norfolk. Whether its fish and chips at the Norfolk coast or a visit to one of the great restaurants in Norwich. Norwich has so much to offer. Beautiful architecture, shopping, outdoor spaces and more. See what to include in your trip in this guide to Norwich. This visit for us was all about the food!
Farmyard:
Farmyard restaurant, just a stone’s throw away from the excellent Benedicts on you guessed it Saint Benedicts street. Our choice of venue was inspired by a favourite food writer describing a chocolate dessert in the Saturday paper a few weeks back. These are the the small things that can set you on the path to a good meal. Farmyard is a large, light and airy dining room with a superb view into the open kitchen.
The Set Lunch:
The set lunch menu is great value at two courses for £15 or 3 for £19. Also available is the a la carte menu but I opted for the set lunch. My main course was a tasty combination of roast hake, dashi, noodles and shiitake perfect for a summer lunch.
Chilled rice pudding to follow, served with almond and plum granita which was refreshing and cool. This represented outstanding value for food of this quality.
A La Carte
Going a la carte, Mel wasn’t disappointed either. Her main course (black truffle & hazelnut gnocchi, mushroom purée & mushrooms) was a delight and full of the flavours advertised so a tasty winner.
Dessert was the dish mentioned in the introduction- the Farmyard chocolate bar. Made with Columbian 65%, miso caramel, peanuts and vanilla ice cream it was worth the visit alone. Dark smooth chocolate and the salty caramel and peanuts make this the most delicious Snickers bar you could eat.
Farmyard offers a good drinks menu including local beer and wines from around the world which sits nicely alongside the food. We both enjoyed our lunch and the service was friendly and efficient whilst creating a relaxing atmosphere. Another great place to eat in Norwich.
What other restaurants in Norwich?
- Benedicts is a real class act and a great addition to the city. Serving modern British food, Richard Benedict won the ‘Great British Menu’ with two of his delicious dishes. Nanny Bush’s Seasonal Trifle is amazing and a must to try.
- How about an afternoon tea at The Assembly house? A lovely combination of classic and modern treats for a rest from the shopping.
- Fresh, vibrant and totally delicious wood fired pizza from Brick Pizza. This is a cool independent which is centrally situated near the market.
- Delightful macaroons from Macaroons and More . Mel is slightly obsessed with these tasty little treasures! Mail order for a gift if you really want to really want to spoil somebody special and make their day
- The Wallow is a great, cosy wine bar offering quality wines on self-service wine dispensers. Also offering their food boards including cheese, veggie and classic Wallow board.
As an infrequent visitor to this city, over the last 12 months I have found myself returning more and more to check out places to eat here. It really is a thriving food scene so I’ll be back soon to try some more restaurants in Norwich!
