Tractive Dog 6 GPS Tracker Review

We are huge fans of the Tractive trackers and have been using them for many years now. As whippet owners, a really reliable GPS device is worth its weight in gold- particularly as we do have one whippet with dubious recall. We were recently asked to review the Tractive Dog 6 device and were delighted to try it out and see the updates.

So what is new with the Tractive Dog 6?

In our previous Tractive review we listed all of the many benefits this GPS device offers- but the Dog 6 is now even better! Here’s why:

• It Weighs less than 39g so suitable for smaller dogs (above 4kg) and delicate whippet necks.
• Compact design at only 2-8 x 1.1 x 0.7 inches. If you look in the photo above, it is on the left hand side harness below his neck.
• It has a Live Tracking feature in real time with an unlimited range- it updates every 2-3 seconds.
• The device is really reasonable at just £59 (you need a subscription to use the device).
• The subscription costs from just over £4 per month (if paid in advance).
• Extended battery life- the device is easy to charge. and the battery lasts for up to 14 days before needing to be recharged. 
• It is 100% waterproof and shock resistant device that fits to different sized collars or harnesses so would fit on our existing harnesses. 
• The virtual fence can be set to alert you if your dog wanders out of your designated safe area. You receive alerts to your phone when your dog is out of their safe zones, and returns.
• Bite-proof fiberglass casing.
• Bark monitoring to keep track of if your dog has been barking more/ less than usual.
• Additional and stronger light and sound to help locate- particularly at night.
• Worldwide coverage and family share option (with premium subscription).
• Health alerts to help you keep track of any changes to your dogs behaviour.
• Sleep and activity monitoring functions.
• The device is good looking- choose from black, mint or brown!

What we think of the updates:

We really like the ‘disco light’ addition to the device as it really does light up so is easy to spot in dusky light. The bark monitor is really handy as we are monitoring our eldest whippet who has developed separation anxiety in his old age. The new device harness feels stronger than the previous material so a welcome change too. The premium subscription gives the useful feature of family sharing so everyone can have eyes on the precious pets!

Why choose Tractive?

There are other tracking devices on the market but we love Tractive because of the all of the reasons listed above but also because it is so reliable and easy to use. Having owned Tractive devices for many years, I have never had one break or not work. We have had to use the device in an emergency situation when our whippet went AWOL and the peace of mind it gives us is priceless. The device is comfortable for the dogs to wear- they don’t even notice it on their harness. An effortless addition to essential kit! Highly recommended by all of us.
