Eating in- the Best Restaurant Kits in Cambridge
One of the great pleasures in life for us is eating out. The anticipation, reading the menu, and the enjoyment of the perfectly prepared food in a relaxed setting. It will return. In the meantime, how about a home meal kit from your favourite independent restaurant? Not only will this give you a top quality meal but it will also help to support our wonderful local restaurateurs through this difficult time. Here are the some of best restaurant kits Cambridge has to offer.
Restaurant 22 – Twenty Two at Home
One of our favourite restaurants recently entered the dine at home arena with a luxurious weekly changing menu. The menu at Restaurant 22 includes; snacks, bread, amuse bouchè, starter, main, dessert and petit four. The entire process, from booking to eating, is as expertly curated as you would expect from this superb restaurant.
We recently had the pleasure of trying this. The food was as sublime as ever and, even though we were eating at home, it felt like a really special meal.
Think herb fed chicken croquette, chestnut and truffle agnolotti, retired dairy cow, and Russet apple with toasted barley and vanilla. Simply delicious!
The comprehensive instructions made the reheating process easy. A real treat for that special occasion. You can also head over to Thorne wines and order a 3 bottle matching wine flight to go with your meal.
In between lockdowns, we managed to visit Chef Mark Poynton’s new venture MJP for a wonderful meal. Now that we are back in lockdown, MJP are offering a to-your-door delivery of food prepared in the restaurant kitchen. You can choose your starters, mains and desserts from the weekly changing menu. Dishes are individually priced or alternatively, you can have 2 courses for £15, or 3 courses for £18.50. Outstanding value.
Start with Beetroot cured salmon, celeriac remoulade followed by Chicken, Brie & leek pie and finish off with Vanilla cheesecake, rhubarb & gin compote. You can also order the delicious bread served in the restaurant. All food will keep in the refrigerator for up to four days and can be frozen. Easy to follow Instructions are provided with your order.

They are offering a two course lunch (collection only) to be finished at home by following the accompanying heating instructions. Part of the Cambscuisine group, the Cambridge Chop House are offering meal kits for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home. Delivered to your door through ‘Click it Local‘ , they currently have three different options. Choose between Sunday lunch, pie night in, or Chop House steak night.
Pie night in sounds like my kind of evening. A delicious homemade pie (Beef, ale and wild mushroom, or Sweet potato, leek and cheddar), served with mash, winter greens, and a red wine sauce. Dessert? How about a sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce. This serves two people perfectly for these cold lockdown evenings.
Vanderlyle to go
Currently having a break but hopefully returning soon, the wonderful team at Vanderlyle blazed a trail for home meal kits early in the first lockdown. The weekly changing, vegetable based menus sold out in record time on a regular basis. You had to be on your toes to get one! When they return, get organised and enjoy the super-easy booking and collection process.
Start with focaccia, rapeseed oil and rye. Move on to a beetroot and lentil salad and drizzle over the prepared nasturtium and pumpkin seed pesto. The clever use of ingredients continues with a red fox pea ‘not-tage’ pie served with seasonal greens. End your meal with a delightful pumpkin spiced cake and enjoy a coffee with a perfect little plum jam and walnut cookie. Extras such as wines and cheese available too.
