Elm Restaurant: A Memorable 7-Course Tasting Menu Experience

When it comes to special occasions, few things feel more indulgent than settling in for a tasting menu. For a recent birthday celebration, we chose Elm, and after experiencing their seven-course tasting menu, it was a great choice!
Restaurant Elm is in Broomhill, Sheffield. It opens Wednesday to Saturday evenings, and Thursday and Friday lunchtimes. The venue then doubles up as coffee shop for the rest of the week.
From the moment we arrived, the restaurant struck the perfect balance between relaxed and refined. Soft candlelight, beautifully dressed tables, and well-pitched service set the tone for what was to become a lovely dining experience.
A Warm Welcome
As we took our seats by the window, where we chose the 7 course tasting menu and a lovely bottle of Spanish wine. The intimate setting immediately felt special without being intimidating, making it the ideal place for a relaxed birthday celebration.

Bread and butter:
We started with freshly baked treacle bread with a silky smooth cultured butter.

The bread had a wonderfully crisp crust and soft, airy centre, while the butter was rich, creamy and wonderful.
Artichoke:

The first course was roasted Jerusalem artichoke with vintage cheddar custard, artichoke sauce, chive oil and roasted yeast. Yes, it was as delicious as it sounds. Cheddar custard!
Hen of the Wood:

Next was hen of the wood glazed in truffle, maple syrup, with Riesling sauce. Meat eaters also got crispy chicken skin.
Crab:

The fresh crab dish was the perfect follow up. Hand picked crab, spruce pickled kohlrabi, yuzu, sea herbs and furikake.
Beetroot:

The main course gave me glazed beetroot, radicchio, confit garlic puree, raspberry vinegar gel, crispy polenta, maituke ragu, and cave aged polenta. The meat eaters had venison.
Cheese:

Next we enjoyed Cote Hill Blue cheese with fresh membrillo and a crunchy Knekkebrod.
Parkin:

The first sweet treat was absolutely stunning. Burnt butter ice cream, with crunchy Yorkshire Parkin, and sweet Pedro Ximenez caramel.
Chocolate:

To close the menu, we had a Cherry parfait, dark chocolate namelaka, fermented cherry jam, roasted cocoa nibs, apple marigold, and a delicate sugar tuile.
The menu:
We loved the food at Elm. The menu flowed perfectly and each dish was so tasty. Throughout the evening, each dish arrived beautifully presented. The pacing was excellent, allowing us to enjoy each plate without ever feeling rushed. We had a really lovely evening.

We didn’t want it to end so finished up with coffee and petit fours.
The 7 course tasting menu is £75 per person which we felt was great value.
