3 tips for moving home (that you may not have thought of!)
Most people will move home at least a few times in their life. As with anything you have to do multiple times – especially something as difficult as a house move – it’s important to think about how you can make that process as easy as possible. While there are all the usual tips, like hiring a removals company such as Bright Movers and getting help from your friends, what about the tips that you might not have thought about? Read on to hear our top three bits of advice you might not have heard before.
Make a moving day kit
When moving house, it’s easy to just pack everything you could need away and lose it in the chaos. After all, you’ll be reunited with it soon anyway, so what’s the fuss? The main issue with this approach is that there are probably several things in your life that you need to get through the day, or at least that make your life a lot more enjoyable.
It’s worth thinking about things that might make the moving day a lot easier, and then popping them in a bag. This could include your favourite coffee mug, a blanket, some painkillers and a few snacks to get you through the day. Having these kinds of things on hand can make the whole experience a lot less stressful, whether you pull a back muscle lifting something or just want a quick nap.
Give stuff away to your friends
Moving house is so much harder when you have too much stuff. The solution? Sort out what you don’t really use or want any more, have some friends round for an evening, and ask them what they might want to take off your hands. It can be a nice excuse for an evening in, and it could save you a few trips to the charity shop or local waste disposal point! Try to be as ruthless as possible – the more stuff you manage to get rid of, the nicer it’ll be to move into your new place.
Make a moving day playlist
Music can have a powerful effect on your mood, and you’ll need all the help you can get in this area when moving house. With that in mind, think about making a playlist or two for the moving day. You can make one to calm you down, and another to hype you up, depending on what it is that you need at that moment. You can also make the playlists collaborative and get some of your friends with good music taste to add some songs!
Moving home doesn’t have to be something that you dread, you often just need to reframe it mentally in a more positive light. By taking tips like the ones we mentioned above seriously, and asking your friends and family for tips that they’ve found helpful in the past, you can massively improve the move, turning it into something you might even enjoy a little bit.
