Cotto Restaurant Cambridge Review

Cotto Restaurant Cambridge Review
where to eat in Cambridge
Cotto restaurant Cambridge has been on our ‘to try’ list for a long time so when the gift of a voucher and a birthday to celebrate came it gave us that final push to book. Cotto is situated inside the Gonville hotel over looking Parker’s Piece in central Cambridge.

The Welcome:

Friendly and efficient staff greeted us into the pleasant restaurant. The menu, priced at £70 for three courses (this goes up to £75 on Friday and Saturday), is a pleasing mixture with something to suit most tastes.

The Starters:

Mel starts with a panko crusted farmhouse egg served with portobello mushroom, spigarellio and a lemony hollandaise sauce which was a delicious and satisfying starter.
My choice, Veal cheeks, slowly cooked with a Maderia jus, served on top of a vegetable risotto hit the spot as well.

The mains:

It is rare that we choose the same main course as we like to try as much of the menu as possible, but on this occasion we did and were not disappointed.
Venison was the star of the show for this tasty main in light, crisp pastry shell. Served with a juniper sauce, a hint of chocolate and blackberries with a red apple cabbage- a solid main course which was enjoyed by us both.

Dessert:

While not at the cutting edge of presentation, these desserts delivered on taste. Both the chocolate piano gateaux and the warm white peach and almond cake disappeared quickly.

The wine list is reasonably priced, and we chose to wash our meal down with a crisp bottle of Albariño which is one of our favourite wines.

Petits Fours:

To finish, coffee which arrived with a pleasing selection of home made petits fours (the best being a little raspberry chocolate).

Cotto Restaurant Cambridge:

This was an enjoyable evening. The food was good and the setting relaxed and special. A good choice when planning a visit to one of the restaurants in Cambridge.
